West Lake Tohopekaliga, locally known as West Lake Toho,
comprises 18,810 acres and is the largest lake in a 50-mile long
stretch of lakes that form the Kissimmee Chain of lakes. Just
south of Orlando and west of the town of Kissimmee, West
Toho sits in the northern section of the greater Everglades
watershed. Water flows from the Kissimmee Chain of lakes into
the Kissimmee River and further down to Lake Okeechobee,
which connects and empties into the Florida Everglades.
East Lake Tohopekaliga, locally known as East Lake, lies north
of St. Cloud and is Florida's 14th largest lake. It encompasses
approximately 13,691 acres and is part of the Kissimmee Chain
of Lakes.
Both lakes provide excellent bass, catfish and panfish fisheries,
and bass anglers around the world fish West Lake Toho in
numerous tournaments. West Lake Toho is considered one of
the United States' top bass lakes for both numbers and size of
largemouth bass.

West Lake Toho - Sep 12, 2006

Bass fishing is fair with experienced anglers getting up to 10 fish to 5
pounds during mornings. Most of these fish are coming around open water
vegetation, especially hydrilla. Large plastic worms, especially 10-inch
varieties, and top-water plastic frogs are working best. Best times to fish
for bass at Toho are from about dawn until mid-morning, though anglers
are finding fish well into the middle of the day. Late evenings are also
producing bass in deeper, cooler water.
